What We Offer

Ballet

DanceWorks Geelong offers ballet classes for primary age 5 - adults utilising the ATOD syllabus. It is a graceful style of dance that provides an important foundation for all other dance styles. It enables students to develop their posture, balance, poise, flexibility, self-discipline and musicality. Classes progress through barre and centre work combinations and finish with a routine. Exams using the ATOD syllabus will be available for this style in 2021.

Jazz

Jazz classes at DanceWorks Geelong are always high in energy and lots of fun! Classes begin with a high intensity warm up of cardio, strength exercises and stretches and progress into technical combinations including kicks, jumps and turns. These combinations are then incorporated into a dance routine. Our jazz classes enable students to become strong, technical dancers, transferable to other popular dance styles. Classes are offered from minis age 5 - adults.

Tap

Our tap classes are fast paced, with our teachers bringing their diverse tap styles to each class. With a mix of theatrical and street tap, this style of dance is always new and exciting for students and helps develop rhythm, coordination and musicality. Tap dancers have shoes that are fitted with metal plates that enable them to make beats and rhythms, a must for ongoing participation in this dance class. Exams using the ATOD syllabus will be available for this style in 2021. Classes are offered from minis age 5 - adults.

Hip Hop / Urban Commercial

DanceWorks Geelong offers strong classes in Hip Hop and urban choreography. Our teachers have trained with top hip hop choreographers in Melbourne and bring their own unique style to their classes. Hip Hop/Commercial classes focus on enabling the dancer to add their own personality and flare whilst learning to control and isolate their body. Our classes incorporate sub-styles such as popping, locking, krumping, and break dance. Classes are offered from juniors age 8 - adults.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance classes at DanceWorks Geelong are designed to increase body awareness, movement, and flow through dance. Contemporary encompasses various dance methods that break free from traditional classical ballet. The style uses the natural alignment and energy of the body and aims to encourage creativity and expression. Classes involve a stretching component as well as improvisation, partnering work and a routine. Contemporary classes are offered from age 9 - adults, with a pre-requisite of ballet experience recommended.

Lyrical

Lyrical is an expressive form of dance that connects the words of a song to the movements performed. It employs the foundation techniques of ballet but uses modern music. This style of dance helps the students to develop musicality and express emotions.

Pre-School Program

Our Toddler and Kinder dance introduce your child into the exciting world of music, dance and creative expression. Classes assist in motor development, building social and emotional confidence, as well as learning age appropriate ballet and jazz dancing skills. Class sizes are kept small so that our teachers can divide their attention between all students evenly. Parents don’t usually stay in the class for the whole time as we find the little ones engage more with minimal distractions from parents and siblings. We do invite parents in at the end of these classes to observe something they have learnt in their lesson or to participate in a free movement routine. The program is developed for ages 2 - 5 years.

Musical Theatre Jazz / Broadway

Our musical theatre jazz and Broadway classes are geared toward those wishing to gain basic jazz skills typically required for theatre shows. Aimed at the primary school age group as well as a separate class for adults, this is a diverse class great for building confidence and performance skills.

Acro

Acro aims to support dancers with their dancing. The Acrobatic Dance Australia syllabus is used and encompasses tumbling, limbering, contortion, flexibility and strength building. Students participating in Acro Dance must also be enrolled in jazz and/or ballet classes as it compliments these styles and develops a stronger dancer and enables safe dance technique.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available with our instructors for competition choreography, exam syllabus work or for general technique improvement. Private lessons may only be arranged through discussion with the Director and incur an extra fee, that encompasses both the teacher’s wage and studio hire.
